A massive, deep, powerful and structured masterpiece of a Grange. Youthful, yet also rocking tonight with explosive and layered aromatics of créme de cassis, warm cherry pie, eucalyptus and Christmas spices. They waft from the glass. The palate is rich and intense but also shows such finesse in its delivery, along with a silky smooth texture, ripe tannins and ridiculous length. Differing from my usual wines of choice, but Grange is indeed a special wine. ✨

I'mI'm not to fond of the smokey, tarry notes on the nose here; it's like American barrels with far to much toast added to them. The minty addition is great, as is the flawless fruit, BUT it's hard to to find due to the overwhelming oak regime. I like it much better on the palate; serious drive here! A bit hot on the finish and it lacks that hint of elegance which makes Grange a great wine. 1996 is not there. Period.

Licorice, red fruit and stewed blackberry. Hints of menthol and violets. Very pretty!

Dense and spicy. This was packed with power and a very full mouthfeel. I think this a great drinking window for this vintage.
