The 2010 Montrose is one of the highlights of the Icons of Bordeaux dinner. It has a show-stopper nose with powerful, intense, mineral-rich black fruit, becoming quite floral with aeration. Potpourri hints complement tobacco notes. The palate is fresh, vibrant and weighty, yet paradoxically, it has wonderful finesse. There is a symmetry about this Montrose, coupled with a tremendous length that leaves you wanting more. Brilliant. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the Icons of Bordeaux dinner at Legacy Records in New York. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2024)

Warm nose of straw and rich loam, gunpowder tea, cumin, espresso grounds, ripe black cherry, toasted coffee rye, and pipe tobacco. Silky tannins stretched tight across baked black currant, bakers chocolate, cardamom, generous graphite dusted, dark toasted black rye, burnt ends, grilled date.

The 2010 Montrose boasts a killer bouquet with beautifully delineated black fruit laced with cedar and tobacco. With time its sous-bois scents become more prominent. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a little grainy in texture with fine acidity. This is a masculine and broody Saint-Estèphe that will need another decade in bottle to shave its edges. But what immense structure and density. Fantastic. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the BI Wines & Spirits 10-Year On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, April 2020)

Wine of the year for me in 2014 so far! Fantastic balance, superb concentration, long and elegant on the finish.

Year when we bought our home and moved to NJ. Opening now as we just left NJ for TX. Still young and required a bit of time to open up. Dark berries, tobacco, pencil, wet leaves, plum. Long finish.

Given the wine’s highly rated professional scores I was expecting a tad more complexity and stuffing from this significant Second Growth. (Would love to be around when this Montrose really begins to sing. Sadly I won’t.)
